Underway in Ocia is the construction and filling of a fleet of supertankers. Stripped of their original use as oil carriers, the empty hulls are being cleaned and retrofitted for the storage and transport of nearly a million Ocian citizens to the Bluelight Territory. The massive supertankers will carry not only colonists and researchers, they will carry construction equipment and materials needed to build an entire city - New Light City that is. NLC will be the new home for a good majority of the new residents of Bluelight. Here the employees of the facilities many research and development departments can find leisure in the tranquility of suburban life or the bustle of the downtown city.
One of the supertankers undergoing retrofitting
Three major Ocian ports are working around the clock to get the ships prepared for their voyage across Giess to the partially explored Antarcitc region. One reaching a safe harbor at the northern tip of the landmass, they will disembark with their occupants and begin the initial phases of constructing New Light City and exploring claims over the Bluelight Territory. More news will be posted as it becomes available.
The OSS Azure, Princess, and Atlantis II on their way south
Three of twelve supertankers have disembarked for the Giessian Antarctic, making their way across the ocean with an initial payload of some 50,000 colonists and goods mostly consisting of agricultural, industrial, and construction goods. Accompanying the three ships will be a smaller tanker retrofitted to carry only medical supplies, and to serve as a floating hospital for the long journey.
The OSS Theresa medical ship prior to leaving dock
All four vessels are expected to anchor offshore at the northern tip of the Antarctic region, where they will begin laying the groundwork for New Light City, the capital and headquarters of the Bluelight Territory. Assisted by a large amount of construction materials, including large equipment such as back-hoes and steam-shovels, cranes and bulldozers, dredgers and drills, the workers will carve out a pier for the ships and build a massive port capable of taking the future vessels easily once they arrive. As it stands, the vessels must anchor offshore and goods and people must be ferried over to land. In addition to the port, low-cost modular housing will be built to house people while more permanent dwellings are built. Besides this, to keep the colony going after the ships leave, large fields will be planted with wheat and corn, and drills will tap regional oil reserves in order to refine petroleum locally. While 50,000 people sounds like a lot, they will all be utilized fully to fulfill this massive task in the name of Ocia.
More information will be posted on the colonization effort as it continues.
