ANNOUNCEMENT OF OFFICIAL ELECTION DATES
[/center]The Ocian Electoral Commission is pleased to announce the following dates have been Officially set aside for the Presidential and Assembly Election and all associated events therein:
The Presidential Election
- 1st November 2008 - Nominations and Announcement of Candidacy Open
- 24th November 2008 - Nominations and Announcement of Candidacy Close
- 27th November 2008- Deadline for Drop Out of Elections
- 28th November 2008 - President makes final address to the Assembly with the “Summary of Federal Affairs Speech”
- 30th November 2008 - All Campaigning and Electioneering is Legally Stopped.
- 1st December 2008 - Polls Open
- 2nd December 2008- Polls Close
- 3rd December 2008- Winner Announced
- 6th December 2008- Deadline for submission of appeals to the High Court
Provisional - 7th December 2008 - Winner inaugurated
- 8th December 2008 - Winner Assumes/Continues in Office
The Federal Assembly of Ocia
- 9th November 2008 - Party registration for election opens (forms available later)
- 7th December 2008 - Party Registration Closes
- 10th December 2008 - Drop out deadline
- 12th December 2008 - President Dissolves the Assembly
- 14th December 2008 - Polls Open
- 15th December 2008 - Polls Close
- 16th December 2008 - Results Announced
- 19th December 2008 - Deadline for Appeals to the High Court
Provisional - 20th December 2008 - Winning Party Leader Sworn in as Prime Minister and nominates Cabinet
- 10th January 2009 - President summons the Assembly for First Sitting and Makes Opening Speech
The Electoral Commission will only change the above dates under exceptional conditions by Petition, highlighting reasons or if instructed to do so by The President, the Majority (50%+1) of the Assembly or the Board of the Electoral Commission. Nonetheless, current dates above should be taken by all as final unless advertised otherwise.
All Citizens will be contacted by the Commission in the coming weeks for Electoral Registration, please keep a eye on your PM Box.
The Method of Election is currently under review by the Commission and may or may not be changed this Year, please keep a eye on this board for any announcement(s).
