The Ministry of Justice & Law Reform, wishes to announce the establishment of the Ocian Police Reserve Force, this provides for the establishment of a Police Reserve, consisting of 5,000 persons, to assist the force in performing its functions. Its purpose is to supplement the work of members of the Police. The first 1,000 recruits to the Reserve are expected to be in Place by July 2008 with further recuirtments occuring at times set by the Ministry which are TBA.
The Reserve will carry out duties defined by the Police Commissioner and sanctioned by the Minister for Justice & Law Reform.
Function
The Ocian Police Reserve is intended to be a source of local strength and knowledge. Reserve members will be given full powers and duties, however these powers have been restricted and will be rolled out at the discretion of the commissioner. Reserve members will receive training in Law, self defence, Human Rights and Police procedures and discipline. Reserve members are required to work under the supervision of regular members of the Force. A Ocian Police Reserve will be required to work a minimum of 208 hours per year, with minimum tour durations of 4 hours. Duties of a Reservist include: Station Duty (other than care & custody of detained persons), staffing communications rooms, foot patrol, static security duty, event policing, preserving crime scenes, court attendance (as witnesses), assisting at road traffic checkpoints, collisions, fires, etc.
Limited Powers
Reservists will not be deployed in plain clothes, carry firearms or drive Police vehicles. Duties and powers assigned to Police Reserves will be commensurate to their training and will primarily involve legislation relating to road traffic, public order, drugs, theft & burglary.
Applications
Applications to join the Ocian Police Reserve, should be made to the Police Commissioner or to the Minister of Justice. Application forms are available upon request.
Further Plans
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) also announced today that it has plans in the pipeline to increase the number of Regular Police Officers in Ocia from the current force size of 15,000 to 25,000 by the end of the Year. The MoJ has been in talks with the Police Commissioner and several leading Police Officers to gauge the exact procedure of this plan. However, until then the MoJ, is confident that the Police Reserve will cut down on the strain & demand on the current Police System and will free up Regular Police Officers to do other duties which would of up-to-now been impossible.
