The Prime Minister of the Ocian Federation, Mr. Michael Dervin OCS, MA, has this morning announced that all government funding for the University of Directrus (UoD) will be suspended with immediate effect.
The suspension comes after the Prime Minister met last night with the President and senior officials of the UoD regarding the future and the sustainability of the University and the continued Government role in the University. The Prime Minister said this morning in a Press Conference, that "the continued poor take-up of courses and the worryingly small amount of courses that last the duration, has prompted this Government, who now seeks to provide the ultimate value for money from the exchequer and to stop gross waste of their money, no longer sees any value for money or potential from the UoD as it stands, thus the Government has decided to suspend all payments to the UoD as of today. This is not a permanent cut nor abolition of the UoD, the Government will resume full payment to the UoD, when it has matched the quality and high standards set out by the government. We will not continue to pour your hard earned tax money down the drain with the largely failed project."
The demands of the Government is that the UoD establish at minimum two courses and that it completes the full duration of these courses, which must be a minimum of one month in length. Once these two courses are complete and the Government is satisfied an High Standard and Quality was provided in these courses, the full funding will continue, with one month's arrears. However, if this standard is not met in the next six months, the Government will seize the funding of the UoD will be abolished.
The Prime Minister continued to state that "this is a clear warning to the management of UoD to shape up and get to work as the citizens of Ocia will no longer continue to fund something that isn't working for them. The Government however, will continue to pay our Student Maintenance Grants to those attending the UoD, but Fees and other Charges will no longer be paid until further notice. The LDO and the Government regret this move, however we consider it much needed in shaping up public finances and those supported by it."
